To definitely characterize the thing in question by (a description of) how it looks like, we are inclined to consider the thing as frozen at a particular moment in time, i.e. for giving such a definite description of the thing, we choose one of its semaphoronts (here-and-now individuals). But such a choice will always bias such a description and make it less typical (for the thing in question). So we should resort to the abstract, and express the variable appearances of the thing in a general way.
