Or, since (according to VEATCH) it is the common usage of logic textbooks to speak of a term with a universal designation as being a distributed term, and of one with a particular designation as being an undistributed term, it is possible to suggest (following VEATCH) this alternative formulation of the two rules :

  1. Subject terms are distrubuted in all universal propositions, and undistributed in all particular propositions.

  2. Predicate terms are distributed in all negative propositions, and undistributed in all affirmatives.
