The best known transcendentals, such as UNUM (unity), ALIQUID (something [else] ), VERUM (true), RES (thing) and BONUM (good), apply to every being whatsoever, that is to say, every being is a unity, is something [else], is true, etc. Every such transcendental is thus convertible with being (passio convertibilis).
There are, however, determinations that also apply to every being, but now qualified by "either, or", such as (formally) equal or unequal : Every given being is either (formally) equal to another particular being or (formally) unequal to that other being (where 'other' is already satisfied when beings are spatially separated from each other). Such transcendentals are called passiones disjunctae.
