Matter as not designated, means matter which is, it is true, designated, but it relates to a designation (delimitation) to whatever 'position' (value) within the range of possible variation found in a given species or genus (See BOBIK, J., 1965 (1970), Aquinas on Being and Essence, p. 150). The delimitation thus is still variable within certain limits.
