The State Transition Rule is the law that determines the state of a cell [ in this case a cell of the cell grid of a Random Boolean Network (of cells) -- such a cell is a system element ] at the next (discrete) point in time. The configuration (pattern) of cell states at a certain point in time is the system-state , or system-stadium. In the case of a CA (in contrast with an RBN) every cell is subjected to the same State Transition Rule.
