It should be noted, however, that the new eye lens is not only regenerated when the original lens is removed, but also when the latter is pressed away a little. Also accidental stimulations can give rise to a new lens. So the process seems to be deterministic after all, and proceeding in a bottom-up fashion (See Van MELSEN, A., 1964, Evolutie en Wijsbegeerte, p. 74/5 ). However, the last mentioned phenomena are, each for themselves, an intervention with respect to an already existing complete whole. Such an intervention distorts or damages such a whole, while the regeneration of the lens after surgical removal of the original lens amounts to the restoration of the (damaged) whole, and thus points to the presupposition of that whole.
