In this Essay we will consider some types of twinned crystals. Such crystals consist of two or more crystal individuals that can be considered as having grown together. This "growing together" proceeds in a regular fashion according to certain rules (twin rules). So the result is not a (random) aggregate but a unity. And because the composing crystal individuals in such a twin have different orientations with respect to each other we can say that such twins have a tectological structure (instead of a pure periodic structure), and thus can be considered as mediating between single crystals and organisms with respect to their structure and shape.
